So, my friend tells me that she’s not a creative person. This is said as friends sit around a table during a dinner she organized. Something she consistently does, sending out emails, co-ordinating dates, booking the restaurant. We laugh, cry a little, celebrate, support, hug… She created this evening, this connection. It’s as creative as any painting or poem.
We are all creative beings and in one way or another our presence is felt in the world. Granted, some create chaos and discontent (the writer in me is grateful for the source material they provide).
I used to equate creativity to a product: a sculpture, painting, novel, a song… Now, I see it as a way to travel through the moments, something as small as scattering seeds for the birds, making someone a cup of tea, bringing laughter into a room. Recently I met a person at Homesense buying a frame for a photograph of a Syrian sunrise for refugee’s new home. She asked, “Do you think it’s lame?” I wanted to hug her.
As is often the case, creating creates a royal mess. My family can attest to the spectacular messes I make, both physically and metaphorically. But, I’ve learned (am learning) to embrace it as an inevitable part of the ride.
As you pedal through your days remember, one way or another you are creating something that has an impact on the world. I hope it’s a wild, weird, wonderful masterpiece.

For some reason I’m having trouble leaving comments on other sites so until I sort that out I will say here that your dog photo journey was so delightful. I liked that you captured their wonderful dogginess and I loved that behind every picture was a connection with a person. Something new… new world… so creative!
This makes sense to me “creativity does not always result in a product”…What you wrote is a reflection for me, time taken to appreciate and be grateful for all the thoughtful ways we are and can be creative every day…
I think gratitude and thoughtfulness might be the most creative forces in the universe.
